Charon is one of the most iconic Specters of Hades, drawn directly from Greek mythology. The original Charon was the ferryman of the Underworld — the one who guided the souls of the dead across the Acheron and the Styx on his boat, in exchange for an obol. In Saint Seiya, this mythological figure has become a warrior whose surplice embodies the boundary between worlds and whose oar is a formidable combat weapon.
His junction star places him at the crossroads of worlds — neither living nor dead, neither on one side nor the other. This particular position translates in combat into a cosmos that bears the fundamental ambiguity of passage: Rolling Oar strikes with the force of the infernal river, Current Crush sweeps the opponent in a cosmic current from which it is difficult to escape. Facing Charon, one confronts not just a warrior — one confronts the boundary itself.
Abilities & Techniques
Rolling Oar
Charon uses his cosmic oar as a devastating percussion weapon. The oar, charged with the cosmos of the Acheron, strikes with the force of the river of the Underworld — an impact that carries within it the boundary between the living and the dead.
Current Crush
Charon invokes the current of the Acheron river to project a wave of infernal cosmos against his opponents. The technique mimics the irresistible flow of the river of the dead — once swept away by this current, it is difficult to break free.
Guardian of the Boundary
His junction star makes him the specter who symbolizes the passage between worlds. This cosmic duality grants him a particular resistance to techniques that play on the life/death boundary.
Evolution
01 —The Mythological Ferryman — Charon is directly inspired by the ferryman of the Underworld in Greek mythology — the one who guides the souls of the deceased across the Styx and the Acheron. His surplice is the embodiment of this function: guardian of the boundary between the living and the dead.
02 —Junction Star — His protective star is one of the most symbolically charged among the Specters. The junction designates the point of contact between two worlds, two states of existence. Charon lives in this in-between, and his cosmos bears its mark.
03 —Weapon and Tool — His oar is not merely a symbol — it is a formidable cosmic weapon. Rolling Oar and Current Crush make this navigational instrument a vector of destruction that combines physical power and infernal cosmos.
