Saga of Gemini

💀 Specter of Hades — Gemini

If Saint Seiya had a single tragic protagonist, it would be Saga of Gemini. Not Seiya, whose journey is one of growth. Not Athena, whose destiny is divine. But Saga — the most powerful man of the Sanctuary, the greatest of the Gold Saints, and yet the one who nearly destroyed it from within.

His duality is constitutive: bearing two consciousnesses in one shell, Saga spent years governing Athena's Sanctuary by usurping the title of Grand Pope, waging war against the goddess he was meant to serve. Not out of pure malice — but because his dark side had gained the upper hand over a light that never ceased to struggle. Each victory of his darkness was also a defeat of something within him. His final redemption, at the end of a battle against the Bronze Saints, was total: he died reconciled, at peace, having chosen the light one last time.

His resurrection as a Specter of Hades is therefore the cruelest reversal Kurumada could inflict upon him. Torn from the rest of those who ended well, Saga returns in an infernal surplice — yet his duality does not disappear. For Saga under Hades's surplice is not entirely lost: within him, light and darkness continue to coexist. His final redemption, this time alongside his fellow former Gold Saints — Shura, Camus, DeathMask, Aphrodite — is perhaps the most beautiful of all, precisely because it was the least expected.

Abilities & Techniques

Galaxian Explosion
The most devastating attack in Saint Seiya: Saga releases the energy of the galaxy concentrated into a breath of absolute destruction. This technique has toppled gods, pulverized divine armors, and defied death itself. In the hands of Saga under Hades's surplice, it retains all its power — and takes on an even more tragic flavor.
Another Dimension & Demonic Illusion
Two complementary techniques that make Saga as formidable mentally as physically. Another Dimension exiles the opponent into a space between realities, while Demonic Illusion plunges its victims into hallucinations from which it is impossible to distinguish truth from fiction.

Evolution

01 —The greatest and most tormented of the Gold Saints — Saga of Gemini is probably the most complex character in all of Saint Seiya. Bearing two consciousnesses within him — one luminous, one dark — he usurped the Grand Pope of the Sanctuary for years, plunging the world into an era of false devotion. His duality was not a weakness: it was a permanent tearing between what he was and what his dark side wanted to make of him.
02 —Redemption through death — and betrayal through resurrection — Saga found peace in death, after fighting alongside the Bronze Saints against his own corruption. His redemption was total — he died as a man reconciled with himself. His reincarnation as a Specter of Hades is therefore doubly tragic: not only is he torn from the rest he deserved, but he returns under an identity that denies his final reconciliation.
03 —Return as a Specter — the light still present in the darkness — Even under the infernal surplice, Saga is not entirely lost. His original duality persists: in his battles against Athena's Saints, one perceives hesitations, moments where the light breaks through. His final redemption, led alongside his fellow Gold Saint Specters, is one of the most cathartic moments of the Hades saga.

Characteristics
The character of absolute duality. Saga is built on the Gemini principle: two beings in one body, two irreconcilable truths in one soul. His entire trajectory — from greatness to downfall, from redemption to forced resurrection — is an exploration of what it means to be fundamentally at war with oneself.
Even under Hades's surplice, Saga remains the central figure of Saint Seiya. Not Seiya, not Athena — but Saga. For he best represents what Kurumada seeks to say about humanity: that light and darkness coexist, and that the greatness of a being is measured by its capacity to choose despite everything.
