But every use of his blood in combat consumes him a little more. Albafica knows he is racing against time, that his life burns like a torch with each attack. Despite this, he does not retreat — protecting the innocent is his reason to be, even if that reason will destroy him.

The episode is visually striking, blood-red roses contrasting with Albafica's whiteness. The Lost Canvas excels at these visual metaphors, and this arc around the Pisces Saint is one of the most beautiful in the series.
