Jabu of the Unicorn is perhaps the character whose fate is most defined by another: Seiya. Orphanage companions at the Graad Foundation, the two boys grew up in a rivalry that never truly found a satisfying resolution for Jabu. For Seiya flew toward the glory of great cosmic battles, while Jabu remained in the antechamber of the epic — strong enough to wear the armor of a mythical constellation, not central enough to the story to change its course. This asymmetry is not a tragedy, but it gives Jabu a particularly endearing psychological texture.
Trained in Oran, Algeria, Jabu developed a fighting style based on combination and cadence. His Unicorn Gallop is not a one-shot technique — it is an accumulation, a rhythm that accelerates like a horse launched into a gallop, until the opponent is overwhelmed by the volume of strikes before having been able to block them all. It is an approach that demands precision and endurance that only thousands of hours of training can guarantee.
What makes Jabu likeable beyond his narrative role is his refusal of fatalism. He knows perfectly well that Seiya has become something beyond him. But he continues, trains, fights — not to catch up with a destiny that slipped through his fingers, but because being the Bronze Knight of the Unicorn deserves to be honored in every battle.
Abilities & Techniques
Unicorn Gallop — the unicorn's charge
His signature technique deploys a series of fast, chained strikes evoking the hooves of a galloping unicorn — a barrage of blows whose increasing cadence exceeds the blocking capacity of an opponent trying to intercept each individually.
Versatile fighter
Jabu combines speed and technique in a balanced style. He lacks Geki's raw strength or Nachi's pure speed, but compensates with tactical versatility that allows him to adapt to different types of opponents.
Seiya's rival
The rivalry with Seiya is written into Jabu's DNA. Since their childhood at the Graad Foundation, the two boys measured themselves against each other constantly. This perpetual competition has forced Jabu to constantly surpass himself — his current level owes as much to his own efforts as to the permanent spur that Seiya represents.
Unicorn's pride
Jabu concedes nothing easily. His pride is his fuel as much as his weakness — it pushes him to give his best in every battle, but sometimes prevents him from accepting help when he needs it.
Evolution
01 —The Graad Foundation — Jabu and Seiya grew up in the same orphanage, the Graad Foundation. Their rivalry was born there naturally, two strong-willed children who refused to be surpassed by the other. When Seiya left for Greece to train, Jabu continued his own path toward the Unicorn Armor — and the competition never stopped.
02 —Training in Oran — The Algerian city and its surroundings, with the Mediterranean heat and varied terrain between sea and mountains, forged in Jabu an adaptive fighter. Algeria is not a place of extremes like Siberia or Kilimanjaro, but it forges daily resilience, a baseline endurance.
03 —The dignity of second place — Throughout the saga, Jabu occupies the uncomfortable role of being Seiya's reference rival — the one who measures the main hero's progress by contrast. But Jabu does not resign himself to it: he constantly seeks to overturn this implicit hierarchy, and in this stubborn quest resides something deeply human.
