Dohko of Libra

♎ Gold Knight — Libra

Two hundred and sixty-one years. That is what Dohko carries on his seemingly fragile old shoulders, seated in the misty peaks of Rozan in China. He is the only being in the entire series whose age itself is a form of cosmic power — a longevity granted by Athena so he could watch, century after century, over a seal upon which the balance of the world depends. While human generations rise, struggle, and die in succession, Dohko watches, waits, and remembers.

His bond with his disciple Shiryu is one of the most beautiful in Saint Seiya. In this transmission from old sage to young dragon, two hundred and sixty years of wisdom pass from hand to hand — the Dragon's techniques, certainly, but above all a worldview: that true strength does not shout, does not flaunt itself, that it waits patiently in the depths like water beneath rock. When Shiryu sacrifices his eyes and his blood to win, it is his master's philosophy he embodies.

And when Dohko finally releases the Cosmos he had compressed for two and a half centuries to maintain the appearance of an old man, the revelation is striking. Behind this old man retired from the world hid the full power of a Gold Knight, preserved intact through the ages. The Rozan Hyaku Ryu Ha is not the technique of one man — it is the distillation of two centuries of silent perfection.

Abilities & Techniques

Rozan Hyaku Ryu Ha
The Hundred Dragons of Rozan is the ultimate manifestation of Dohko's Cosmos — a hundred dragons of light and cosmic force unleashed simultaneously in a devastating avalanche. This condensed technique represents two hundred and sixty years of refinement, a mastery accumulated in the monastic patience of the sacred mountain.
Shiryu's Master
Dohko is the master of the Dragon Knight, Shiryu. This lineage is no small matter: he passed on to his disciple not only the Dragon's techniques but also his philosophy — that true strength is born of inner discipline, patience, and a Cosmos in harmony with nature.
Longevity and Wisdom
Two hundred and sixty-one years of existence, spent largely in the solitude of the Rozan peaks, have made Dohko a being who perceives the world with a depth unreachable by his contemporaries. He has seen wars, gods, entire cycles of creation and destruction — his wisdom is no pose, it is an accumulation.
Libra Armor
Unlike the other temples, that of Libra has no human guardian but twelve autonomous cosmic weapons. Dohko can summon them individually or simultaneously to equip his fellow Gold Knights, making his temple a living armory in Athena's service.

Evolution

01 —The Vow of Longevity — During the previous Holy War, Dohko and Shion were the only survivors among the Gold Knights. Athena entrusted them with a guardian mission for the next cycle of war, granting them in return a prodigious longevity. Dohko chose to remain in China, at Rozan, watching over the seal Athena had entrusted to him.
02 —The Solitary Master — For two and a half centuries, Dohko guarded Rozan in near-total solitude, his only link to the world being the presence of his disciple Shiryu. This long wait did not erode his Cosmos — it crystallized it into something immense, irreducible, refined only further by age and time.
03 —The Resurgence as a Young Man — When the Holy War resumes and his mission demands it, Dohko can release the Cosmos he had compressed to preserve his old man's appearance. This return to physical youth is spectacular — revealing that beneath the fragile appearance of the old sage lay, all along, the prodigious power of a Gold Knight in his prime.
04 —The Ultimate Guardian — During the final arc against Hades, Dohko proves to be one of the most decisive fighters. His knowledge of the past, his mastery of the Dragon's techniques, and his centuries-old wisdom make him far more than a warrior — he is Olympus's living memory, the last thread connecting the current war to all those that preceded it.

Characteristics
Dohko's patience is a power in itself. Waiting two and a half centuries without losing either faith or reason is a form of cosmic discipline few can understand. He has learned that time is a master, and that true mastery lies in never letting urgency take hold.
His relationship with Shiryu is one of the most beautiful in the series: not a tyrannical master nor an unreachable saint, but an old sage who poured into his disciple the full richness of his centuries of experience, trusting him to carry that legacy further than he himself could have imagined.
Dohko's quiet humility contrasts with the grandeur of what he represents. He never displays his power or his age as badges of glory — he wears his two hundred and sixty years as a monk wears his robe: lightly, knowing that worth lies not in what one has lived, but in what one has understood.
