Camus of Aquarius

♒ Gold Knight — Aquarius

There is a philosophical question embodied in a character in Saint Seiya: can one love someone by teaching them not to love? Camus of Aquarius is this living contradiction. Born in France, trained on the icy plains of Siberia until he mastered absolute zero, he met a child named Hyoga and decided to make him his disciple — all while teaching him that attachment is weakness, that emotions are flaws, and that true power is born of total detachment.

His Aurora Execution reaches the physical limits of the possible: at this temperature, all matter ceases to vibrate. Camus does not destroy — he suspends, he freezes, he reduces the opponent to the absolute silence of zero. And to reach such cold, he must paradoxically burn with an exceptionally intense Cosmos, mastered inward until it produces its exact opposite. Camus is himself this contradiction: a man of burning discipline whose manifestation is the most total cold.

When he faces Hyoga in the Sanctuary's corridors, the scene is unbearably beautiful and painful. Master against disciple, each knowing exactly what the other is capable of, each secretly hoping the other will find the strength to surpass him. And when Camus dies alongside Saga and Shura to open the road to the Underworld, it is with the serenity of someone who always knew this moment would come — and who prepared for it every day of his life.

Abilities & Techniques

Aurora Execution
Aurora Execution is Camus's ultimate technique — a release of absolute cold that reaches the limits of absolute zero. At this temperature, all matter ceases to vibrate, all energy freezes, all movement stops. It is less an attack than an abolition: the opponent is not destroyed, they are simply... suspended in icy eternity.
Diamond Dust
Diamond Dust envelops the opponent in a veil of microscopic ice crystals that penetrate every pore, every crack in the armor, gradually cooling the body until the heart stops. It is a slow, methodical technique — cold gaining ground millimeter by millimeter, like a silent tide.
Coffin of Ice
Camus traps his opponent in a perfectly smooth ice sarcophagus, with no handhold to escape. This technique is not lethal in itself — but trapped in his master's cold, the opponent must choose between gradually succumbing to hypothermia or breaking their own limits to free themselves.
Mastery of Absolute Zero
Camus's Cosmos is paradoxical in nature: an extraordinary inner heat that manifests as absolute cold. Reaching absolute zero requires inhumanly precise Cosmos control — every degree of temperature demands perfect mastery of vital energy. Camus may be the most refined technician among the Gold Knights.

Evolution

01 —The Master of Siberia — Born in France, Camus chose the icy plains of Siberia as his training ground — not to flee the world, but to find there the extreme conditions needed to master his Cosmos. It was in the Siberian cold that he met a young Hyoga and agreed to train him, recognizing in him a rare potential.
02 —The Master-Disciple Bond — The bond between Camus and Hyoga is one of the most complex in the series. Camus is a demanding master, almost cruel in his methods — he understands that to reach absolute zero, his disciple must learn to sever every emotional attachment. His icy rigor is a form of austere love, but love nonetheless.
03 —Opponent of His Own Disciple — During the Sanctuary War, Camus and Hyoga find themselves face to face. For Camus, this battle is the ultimate test of his teaching: can he fight his disciple with the same impassivity he always demanded of him? For Hyoga, facing his master is the founding trial of his independence as a warrior.
04 —The Sacrifice of the Three — With Saga and Shura, Camus forms the last guard of Gold Knights who sacrifice themselves to open the road to the Underworld. This gesture is the natural conclusion of everything he taught Hyoga: sometimes, the mission demands transcending the fear of death. He dies as he lived — without trembling, without hesitating, eyes open to what must be done.

Characteristics
Camus's coldness is not indifference — it is a form of discipline taken to its extreme logical conclusion. He understood that emotions, left unmastered, are weaknesses. His absolute zero is the perfect metaphor for his philosophy: to be indestructible, one must learn to stop vibrating.
His relationship with Hyoga reveals a depth hidden beneath the icy surface. Camus is not a cold monster — he is a man who decided that the path of his Cosmos demands the sacrifice of all human warmth. This decision costs him, and the battle against his disciple is the moment that cost becomes visible.
His final sacrifice says everything about him: facing death, Camus does not seek to survive, does not negotiate with fate. He accepts the inevitable with the same absolute serenity he always demanded of himself. It is the perfect consistency of an entire existence oriented toward self-mastery.
