Albafica — The Poisoned Roses
Volume 14 · Collectif / Shiori Teshirogi
Albafica's arc in the Gaiden is perhaps the most poignant of the series. Born with naturally toxic blood that poisons everything he touches, Albafica understood very early that he cannot live among the humans he wants to protect. This isolation is not a choice — it is a biological necessity that condemns him to solitude.
His father Lugonis — also a carrier of this biological particularity of Pisces — is the only being with whom Albafica can have physical contact without danger. Their father-son relationship takes on a poignant dimension here: the rare moments when Albafica was touched, held, allowed to be human among humans. Albafica's decision to deliberately cultivate his poison to lethal levels to make it a weapon is revealed here in all its desperate logic.
