The Weight of Aioros

Between battles against the Titans, Episode G takes time to explore Aiolia's psychology in the face of his brother's ghost. Sagittarius Aioros — condemned as a traitor for fleeing with the infant Saori Kido — is a permanent open wound for his younger brother. Aiolia does not understand, cannot understand why his brother acted as he did. He chooses to believe in him nonetheless.

Capricorn Shura, the legendary executioner who killed Aioros on the false Pope's orders, is present in this arc. The tension between Aiolia and Shura — one seeking the truth about his brother, the other having struck him down out of obedience — is one of the most powerful dramatic threads in the series. A secondary Titan attacks during this period of Aiolia's emotional vulnerability.
