The first Gaiden volume plunges into Manigoldo's youth — long before he became the fearsome Gold Knight of Cancer. We discover an undisciplined, disrespectful teenager who is fundamentally off-putting at first glance, entrusted to the eccentric Sage: a former Aquarius Gold Knight turned hermit monk, as unpredictable as he is powerful.
The master-student relationship between these two incompatible characters is at the heart of this arc. Sage refuses to teach Manigoldo through traditional methods — he provokes him, humiliates him, pushes him to his limits. What Manigoldo doesn't yet understand is that every insult is a lesson in disguise. The tone is deliberately comedic, but the growing affection between the two characters shines through in every exchange.
